DRAG out your quarter pounders!!

We all have our itch to scratch when it comes to our Scoots, with mine being drag bikes!

Back in the early-mid 80s, we ran stuff like this on the street as well as at the track. Big Kawasakis runnin' hot motors, wheelie bars and a slick out back. The braver warriors ran nitrous, too!

(I had a kit for my Kaw, but never actually installed it!)

Dug this photo up out of an old magazine and it just defines the way it was back then!

This was what our bikes looked like (minus the lettering).

Anyone else got some cool pics of street/strip terrors to share??

i take it that these became popular because norton and trumph had just died off?

No, that is what killed Norton and Triumph off, fast Jap bikes that didn't need tinkering.
Those big Kaws were the hot rod bikes of my peers...they were widely available, fast in stock form, easy to modify, priced right, and one hell of an adrenaline rush!

But...that isn't to say that a V-twin couldn't be made cool...

I lived thru the fast fours era of the early seventies....the only problem was the never ending addiction of chasing speed....never enough.....fast today, and faster tomorrow. I had to start riding hd's to slow myself down. The only problem was my mentor did r&d work for the guys at S&S........sure did love the sound of a stroker bigtwin shovel....wide open throttle....burnin rubber...too much beer. I think I'll stay with triumph for awhile, but I'm checkin out some cams for the latest project....and a big bore....and mikunis......here I go again!!

Man, haven't seen one of THOSE in quite a few years now!

Pretty cool.

The Honda sixes were quite a monster, too...got to ride a couple when I worked for Honda City.

Good time to be young and into bikes...I miss being green back in 86!

Sixes... yeah, flatmate had a Kawa Z1300, winter time, he's got lotsa miles to get to work, I'm only a mile away, so he used my car, I the bike. Tons of grunt with loud pipes... had a ball on it. I had a chopped CB750 in the shed, unregoed, but use to take it out once in awhile on interstate plates. I sold the Honda and bought a '74 MKIIA Norton 850 roadster... and found out what real grunt is, if you've ever ridden one, you'd know what I'm torqueing about. Ok, the Kwaka's gonna beat the Norton, but a side by side @ 30mph, top gear only, rolling race, the Norton shows the Kwaka the way home.. at least to the next set of lights... That was in the '80s
