difference in hd fat bob tanks ?

Putting together a 42 ul. Went to mount the repop cat eye dash and the tanks don't fit correctly. I know the dash is correct for the year of the bike. Could I have the wrong tanks for the year Just wondering if there is any diffence between 47 - earlier tanks and 47 - up.The bike had a latter style dash on it when dissasembled.

it seems they have 2 different repop "cats eye" tank mounts, one pre 47 and one post 47. id be curious to know too.

i have (well my father has) i think 53? tanks. i cant remember.

HEY ok now dads really a douche....the dremel bit to the balls must have affected his brain (hey, hes like as old as you, cant remember much) while HE was looking in THAT book trying to figure it out i was looking in the regular service manual.

rest assured that book is within 3 feet of the bike.

That funny i was looking in that book the other day. Must of past right over it. I saw a set of 47 tanks on ebay(for way to much) I notice that the tanks have more room for the early dash panel.

36-46 tanks use the skull/catseye dash base, 47 & newer used the 2 & 3 light base. you can use a 2 & 3 light base on 36-46 tanks but can not (as you found out) use skull/catseye bases with 47 & up tanks. clear as mud right?
