Difference between U and UL?

What exactly is the diff between a U and a UL? I know the ULH is an eighty cubic inch. Is it compression or what?

U=Medium compression 74CI
UH=Medium compression 80CI
UL=High compression 74CI
ULH=High Compression 80CI
Low compression heads were available for all models.
No other internal differences.

The aluminum heads (in either medium or high compression) were an extra cost option. They do look good though!

Many U models in the '42-'45 era started life as Military bikes. ULs were civilian models, mostly for police use although a few were used by private owners.
My '44 UL is in police trim.
