I have a project that need some cut down split gas tanks, I have the tanks that will do the job with the look I'm after.
I'm hesitant in cutting the suckers up being original 51-53 Panhead hand shift tanks.

anyone have an idea around this one? or cut the suckers up?

Yeah, but look how sweet those slim downed tanks look! Do it!

I too may be trimming a set of 48 Indian tanks. But my are waffeled and need to be cut apart anyway. Huge dents, a couple holes, and the baffle is rattling around inside real bad.

Sometimes it is easier to find projects needing some love. It's a little easier to chop for sure. Good luck with your decision.

Those are sweet tanks and you'd be crazy to cut them up. I personally would use some late model tanks to cut up, there much cheaper and will still give you the look you want or some cheap after markets as already suggested.

Here's a set of repop non-fuel shutoff tanks I cut down about 1.5" and flat sided. I left the gap as I like seeing the backbone and I'm running a remote master underneath and needed the clearance. I would be really hesitant to cut a good set of OEM tanks considering you could sell them and buy a set of repop WR tanks or maybe luck into a set of OEM WR tanks. A set sold a few months back on here for like $600 or so. Of course, they're your tanks so do wahtever you want with them.
