I'm thinking about it.... is there anything wrong (other than those who don't like the way it would look, which I don't care) or potentially wrong that could happen which could affect the fuel????

Just curious

A lot of British bikes had chromed gas tanks which means the first plating layer was copper.

When I get a gas tank back from the plater there is some loose crap on the inside which he says is from the copper plating process.

Just be thorough cleaning out the inside and you should be OK.
Depending on where you live copper also corrodes at amazing speed.
