Fill it with Coka cola and leave it overnight
Hi
Done electrolysis rust removal a few times but it's alot more of a PIA.
I've had good luck with cleaning vinegar from dollar general.

Buy a pack of 1/4" sheet metal screws 10 or so toss them in use a expansion plug for fill hole and cork plugs for petcock holes fill with cleaning vinegar to the top.
Shake shake well you'll have to loosen plug to let air vent out once you set it down takes about a week shaking daily.

Flush out with baking soda and water will flash rust fast after be ready to throw a bottle of light oil like two stroke oil roll around to coat.

Good luck
Thanks for the replies, gents. I hate to waste good Coca-Cola (I'm guessing it's the phosphoric acid that does the work) so I think I'll start with the vinegar. I've done a lot of electrolysis rust removal for parts and it works well but I can imagine it would be more difficult in a tank. Plus there's all of the gunk the process leaves that would have to be cleaned out.

There is no such thing as a "good Coca-Cola". Crap company.

I have had worse than that. Go to Home Depot, I think it’s called rust be gone, or something like that. Buy 2 gals. (It’s not cheap) let it sit for 2-3 days. Give it a swish now and then. If it’s completely black, pour it out, use more (bio friendly) keep doing it till it’s clean. Then rinse with vinegar/ water. I finished with non ethanol 2 stroke. Jim
Thanks, Jim. I ended up buying a different tank that's just about as bad. I'll check that stuff out.
