BT mech brake light switch spring needed

699 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  skajaquada
Just got informed by a polite (really!) police officer that my brake lights are out. Looked down and damn little spring snapped at the loop. Part number 72017-39, pretty much all the same for mechanical BT or SV engines up to '57 I think. Anyone in the MD-VA-DC-PA area got one handy I can buy? I'm dead in the water 'till I can replace this...

Most hardware stores have an assortment of springs. I'm sure you can find one to get you by.

That's what I thought, too. Spent over an hour at Granger with a 2" thick book of springs. Nothing even close that'll work for any length of time. I've actually welded the little bastard now, but I'm not sure how long it's gonna last so I'm still looking. All my usual suppliers are at Davenport for the weekend. :-(

I have made replacements with pretty much any ole spring that fits in the place the coils on the old one were and a little bit of safety wire. Really only need something that connects switch and pedal with a little bit of give in the middle.
