niether one is really rideable unless you're a contorsionist and design wise i think they're both hideous. the show bike looks like something liberace would ride and the bars and pipe on the black one just look stupid. everyone is intitled to their tastes in bikes but these two leave me feeling nauseous.Tony Bones said:Huh?

I love the sneakers and track pants, in the day and age of everyone trying to look intimidating with goatees, leather, etc... This guy takes it - he looks fuckin' nuts!!!!
Wonder if he takes his helmet off when he goes into the bar for a cold one.....
I'll agree with you on that.lilbill said:niether one is really rideable unless you're a contorsionist and design wise i think they're both hideous. the show bike looks like something liberace would ride and the bars and pipe on the black one just look stupid. everyone is intitled to their tastes in bikes but these two leave me feeling nauseous.

Tony I think that although the Japanese are building some good stuff the bike pictured with the flat black and t handle bars is built for shock factor not to ride. And the point made by offering a glimpse of a traditional bobber was to remind us that bobbers were built for improvements in performance, and I guess I see a lot of that being thrown by the wayside to build bikes that get looked at and to surprise folks rather than improve the performance. In the end result it's always up to the owner to build what he wants. I know I went through this in the early 70's building bikes so radical they were no longer fun to ride, that's when I returned to almost stock bikes with go fast motors that could corner and feel, well, like riding a bike again. Nowdays I just plain ride and don't get too hung up over the look. But as I said that's just my idea of what's right with bikes and everyone is entilted to build what they want.Tony Bones said:I like that bike too, it's a very traditional looking bobber and you have to respect the style. If I was presented w/ a restored 45 or an unrestored one w/ everything there, that's the bike I'd build.
That said, the Japanese are using old parts in new ways and that's pretty progressive. They're taking a box of shit parts and building bikes for the sake of fun and riding. That's pretty neat.
i live over behind Oaklawn Park. Do you live by the lake or just passin thru ?FHP said:lilbill, where are you at in AR?I am on Lake Quachita over by Hot Springs
I'm with oldspeed on this one. But having said that I also have to say that I've seen some awfully nice bikes coming out of Japan lately. Zero is my hero. BUT, I've also seen some of the ugliest, stupidish shit ever too. I too went thru the shock value stage back in the 70s and it was a blast but now I wouldn't ride that shit on a bet. But to each his own and even though I wouldn't be seen dead on alot of bikes I see nowadays I'll fight for your right to ride it if that's what trips yer triggerTony Bones said:That said, the Japanese are using old parts in new ways and that's pretty progressive.
