ironhead bendix carb spitting out alot of gas when running.Bike kicks over good but needs about 4 squerts squirts to get her going on a cold start.when she is warmed up, idle and throttle are cool. Is it normal for it to spit out gas. This is the first time i deal with this type of carb. It has been rebuilt.

sooo... it may not be just the carb? just adjusted the valves idles nice and low, carb responds great. just spitts out, what i think is alot of gas. more then likely when filter will go on it will get soked in gas.

I'd go back and readjust the valves. Spitting back indicates compression coming back through the carb so one or more of the valves doesn't sound like they're seating fully. Pushrods should spin nice and free without a hint of bind on the base circle of the cam.

adjusted the pushrods about 4 times, to be 100% that thay spin nice and free.but still sippts out gas. the carb after seting it at 3/16 overflows, from a hole just above the float.

Are You talking about the accelerator pump? If the nozzle is truned wrong, it will spit gas out of the throat(and right into You eye, if Ya do it right)

If it is not popping loudly when running, out of the carb, I say the valves are fine. Your float needle or seat is bad, or the float is set wrong. Take the carb off, set up a hose to hook to the carb, turn on fuel, and see if any runs out anywhere. If it does not, try leaning the carb, like it was on the bike, going around a sharp turn. If it does not run out, the float more than likely is set close to or correct. Hard to believe that it runs great, idles great, but spits lots of fuel out of the throat.

Which only goes to prove that even when you have a service manual, you can still have running problems. Not everything on every bike, is exactly the same, and your carb proves it. Go ride.
