I have this old Hella fog light that I plan to use as a headlight. The bulb was missing, but this bulb replacement info was listed on the inside:

12V YL 1220 / 8GH 002 473 - 12

Anyone have good source for misc. bulbs?

you could always take it to youre local parts house and they can cross reference it for you thad be the best route to go
I'd give that a shot, but for most places by me, if it's not in their computer, they have no clue. I've even stumped Hella, but they're trying to look into it...
i would go into a autozone of what ever you have and open boxes and find somethign that will fit. my day job is workin on mercedes and you wouldnt believe the bulbs people cram into old hella lamps but most get replaced with h4's or h7's. just my $.02

Fog light bulbs for old Hella lamps are either an H-1 or an H-3. The one you need is the one with the wire lead on it;the other is used for a high beam only application for a Euro light. There is a remote possibility that it could be an H-2 bulb but they saw very limited use. They are easily identified as having 2 male connectors protruding from the bulb and they look a bit like a horsefly.

Go to a parts store that specializes in European parts or even as a long shot a Mercedes-Benz dealer. They should have a DIN standard code book and can get the bulb from that. The basic DIN number for a bulb is 72 601. If you go to an M-B dealer, the number will be 12 digits. The first part of the number is 072601 012---; I can't remember the last three digits.I think one of them is 072601 012290. That should be a 12 volt 55 watt halogen bulb.

Mercedes used Hella fog lamps on a lot of models from the early 70's to the late 80's.
Thanks for the replies, I'll hit the auto parts store soon.

I don't think it's an H type bulb, because it's got a small round socket...
