Any BMW bobbers out there?

I'm really interested in building a '73 BMW R75/5 in a bobber style. I like the Zundapp style frames, but have yet to believe I could get one form Russia to actually use to cut up into a bobber. Basically, I like the look of the Boxer engine and I want to make that an alternative to the flat and Vs always being used. Anyone else going htis route or seen it before? I've seen plenty of BMW café, but not many bobbers.

ya i got a friend that owns 2 54's and is getting a C.J. with sidehack for farting around with his new kid....
i'll have him hunt down his old photos... they are both apart right now..

Those early R engines are beautiful, all cast and ready to shine. They almost looked like they've been shaved. They look great sitting low in a frame. Can't corner worth a damn like that, but for a cruiser, should be nice. I have to finish my '63 Ford before I can start this, but I have been gathering ideas for it for years now. I'm getting anxious.

Here's one that belong to a friend of mine. Its a basic R60/2 with some simple designs changes. Tank, front fork,rear fender and seat. It's a quick, nice looking little bike. I would like to build one similar to it but use a R75/5 engine. Lets see if the pics work.

Hey,I've been cleaning and working on my 1972 BMW R75/5 toaster tank model trying to make it stock as possible.If anyone has any of those junky old stock parts I might be interested.I'm looking for a seat badge,headlight ring,and exhaust parts(header pipes,crossover).Also looking for a lugage rack that will hold a wixom tour pack.Thanks!

Here's a pic of my winter project i just got done. I rebuilt the engine,new paint, seat, transmission bearings,wheel bearings ,tires, blah blah blah... It's was going to be a cafe bike but i just left it set up for 2 lane touring. They really are a fun bike to ride and work on.

You have got to tell us more about that turbobike. That is unreal and awesome in it's stance. So sweet. Have you got anything more on it?

Crow, the green bike is bitchin. I'd do a fat front tire and have a ball with that one. Very cool bike.

The green bike ain't mine, just a web bike I found a while back. It is a stunner. I be;ieve that is a chopped stock plunger frame.

Greggski: Peeper's bike was found on a Yahoo Groups page called "Slash 2". I found a few more pics if you'd like me to post them. His bike looks a lot like Jon Smith's (the old color picture), except that Jon's has a level stance and sexy fork covers. Check this old post, "BMW of the Day," that I made a while back for more pics of Jon Smith's bike. I like it a lot.

Richard, The Red bike was Peepers inspiration for his black /2. The last time i saw it he put a real nice older jawa sidecar on it. believe it or not it looks really good. Thanks for sharing

So i have this '74 R90/6 .. i was planning on doing a cool custom cafe bike with it.. but i ended up starting on my pan instead.

I started looking for pics online trying to get some ideas and to see if anyone was making parts. I came up with a few good ones.

I was thinking that i could make a monoshock rear end for it.. maybe steal one off of a sport bike and mount it to the double loop frame with a custom bracket. But i got to looking at the swingarm. Its a one piece integrated swingarm/driveshaft. That causes some design issues.. because the housing for the driveshaft is cast aluminum.. and it has bushings and seals at either end and integrates with the rear drum.
The other thing is that the gearbox resides attached to the rear of the block and the block is long.. which fits right where a seat post would go.. on a harley style frame.. so that would make some interesting arrangements and modifications for the frame.

This cafe/sport kicks ass..

I had some pics laying around here.. one dude did a west coast chopper style bike with an R90 motor.. it was freaking cool.. the exhaust pipes came up.. crossed over making an x in front of the front frame down tube.. then swept back over the heads...

Hey Magnet, nice pics. I spoke to the guy with the first bike you have pictured. He is really nice and said next time I'm in NY, swing by and swing a leg over it.
I was originally wanting to do the café style boxer, but have been too influenced as of late with all the choppers and bobbers. So I decided to do a solo seat post WWII German-ish style bobber. No nazi shit like that, just a no nonsence version of our post WWII Harleys.
