Got a quick question. I've a pair of 70's era AMF 9 spoke mags, are they suitable for tubeless tyres or should I run tubes?
the rims are good for tubeless but the tires have to say tubeless on themCan't see it cast anywhere on the wheel, jap style, hence the question. The tyres I took off were tubeless, but running tubes. I scored a free set of Avons this week & would prefer to run them without the tubes when I get round to swapping the wheels out.
right on the money. AMF mags need tubes.Tubeless tires will work on most HD cast wheels, but the only ones that have been tested and are for sure sealed have the word "tubeless" as part of the casting. A few (but not all - not even most) of the earlier ones will loose air pressure over time through the porous aluminum casting. Also sometimes people will see a TL in the wheel size marking. This is a rim profile and does not mean tubeless.
