77 Ironhead.... kickstand tab broken/kickstand options

Greetings

The kickstand tab broke off from my ironhead, and it appears to have happened before as the welds/prep done to repair it were pretty horseshit. I don't think I can clean it up well enough with the motor in the frame to do a proper reweld and repair, so I'm wondering what some other options are. I'd rather not have to pull the motor unless absolutely necessary...

I've read that you can use a BT stand attached to the front motor mount plate but couldn't find much info on this, such as which model's stand to use or any decent pictures of one installed. I've also found a bolt on stand that steadfast cycles sells that may work; it's intended for 1" frame tubes.

Any other reasonable options? I'd love to have a centerstand, but they're $$$ and it sounds like they pretty much suck for clearance and ease of use.

Thanks

I've used the BT stand on Ironheads in the past and they work well. Use the left lower bolt hole on the stand on the front lower engine plate bolt to mount it and then try it at different angles to get your final position and to make sure it clears the primary cover. Pretty easy and almost free if you can find used.
This just happened to me a month ago .

Small black bungee cord around the kick stand ( up position ) and the lower part of the frame. Not saying that it is the right way at all because I'm a lazy ass and it works for me
It has a kickstarter.
Yes it does and no electric leg but i don't like leaning it so far over with a 21" front on it. I think I'm going to put a centerstand on.

Do you have a center stand already? They are pretty $pendy if buying one new from Sporty Specialties. I have no firsthand experience, but I hear your concerns about center stands earlier in this thread are valid. I like the sound of the BT, I am going to look into that for my project.

Good Luck.
About 200 for them. Supposedly really hard to use withou help but I can't believe it is that hard... These bikes aren't that heavy.

My thoughts would be to weld on a replacement for the OG one....

The replacement are made Heavy-Duty....
In order to do a good job of welding....The motor would need to come out.

The Big Twin stands just doesn't look right bolted down on the front motor mount plate to me...

Just happened to me a week or two ago. I put a small hose clamp on the kickstand between what was left of the tab weld and the top. Hooked the spring to it and its been working like a charm. Probably gonna be one of those temporary/permanent band aid fixes.
^^^you're definitely right, dragstews, I'm just not eager to pull the motor when the bike is running well and I had it out not too long ago.

Kinda funny.. I cut a 2x4 with angled ends at the perfect length to prop the bike up resting on the ridge of the primary cover. I tuck it into the back of my waistband when i ride and it dawned on me as i rode past my reflection in the window of a building that it looks like i have a piece on me. VA is concealed carry but it would be pretty funny to explain that to a cop.
