I have never used a aftermarket frame...always used the original..

The original title would have to stay with the oem frame. If you sold it, the title would go with it. It's not any benefit to you to "keep the original" title once you go special construction. The aftermarket framed bike will have it's own title and the original title would be useless to that bike because the frame numbers wouldn't match.

^Bad advice all around, except for the first option^

There are only two ways to look at this:

1) Chop your oem frame and keep everything the way it is.

2) Use an aftermarket frame/mso and get it titled as a special construction.

Keep it simple and chop your oem frame, everything will still match and you won't be playing any games.

When I was a kid, the car restorers hated the hotrodders....I dug hotrods and couldn't understand the hate. Now I completely understand it. The majority of so-called hotrods, customs, choppers, and bobbers should have been left to the restorers. Most "hand built" customs look like shit......which is why the ugly and funny bikes is the most popular thread around here.

whats a saw saw? a sawsall? It's put away. I used it early but the plasma cutter is on the floor there. There's also an angle grinder with a cutting wheel.

Not implying to leave it alone. For me, it's not about the ability to fab or build, it's all about design.....and, for me, most of what is done these days, just doesn't work. I hope you are the exception. There are some cool bikes being built here.....get cuttin!!!!

Why irrepairably hack a nice frame to pieces when there are literally hundreds of options available? Why not rework someone elses mistake before you carve up something that's complete and matching numbers? Find a fucked up pre-numbers Sporty frame to work with and save yours for when you eventually say to yourself, "I wish I never fucked up that nice matching numbers frame." It'll happen eventually.

Do with it what you want. My only advice is.... 45 flatty's use to be cheap, solo frames, servi frames, motors and trans'. Guys would give the stuff away 20 years ago. I picked up a running motor (1939 wl) about 18 months ago for $1000. I was just looking on ebay at motors and see them selling for 2-3 grand as runners. Solo frames 2-3 years ago in my area were selling for 300 all day at swap meets. The least expensive I've seen as of recent was 700. I have a hacked up 1971 sporty but I bought it already hacked. I have a hacked 1967 bsa but I kept the origional frame and front end (and odds and ends) incase I ever want to go back to origional.... At swap meets you can find old sporty frame already chopped for 2-300 pretty frequently.

And how many 45 frames do you see for sale that aren't sporting the classic "re-bar arc weld neck rake" or every tab hacked off? The premium price for unmolested 900 frames has already started. Even in this shit economy, the prices are starting to get scary. I'm sure back in the day people had the same attitude with all those first year Knuckle frames too and that plan worked out pretty good.
