70 Sportster frame..

While it's nice to maintain history and not chop up something that is correct and in good condition, what about the rest of the bike? If it was a totally stock, oem machine, then I'd say leave it alone. Otherwise, chop the hell out of that frame, beauty is that you will have still have your titled frame in the end. If you use an aftermarket frame, and there are plenty of choices, then you'd have to do a special construction.

Another idea to save that untouched OEM frame is to buy one off eBay that is not so much cherry...
The frame that you have is worth a few bucks to a guy that is into putting back to OEM looks of the day..

chop it up, the more people who hack up original ironhead frames, the more valuable mine potentially become.
on the other hand, I am cutting up my 74 as it has already been cut on, but my 75 is pretty much untouched, and will remain that way

Plus, '69 and earlier are more valuable because they don't have frame numbers. Cut that sucker

Not really our place to tell you what to do. But we all do have our opinions. I am far from being a true restorer, but the good frames, and everything else, is hard to find sometimes. Sportster frames are not high dollar anywhere, so you could find any later frame and put your motor in it. Or chop it up. You sure would not be the first. One problem you will encounter changing frames, is getting the title to the new frame, unless the PO has it. Plus you would not be matching numbers, which is not super bad, but for any future restorer, it would be. You own it, you make the decisions. Plus, I agree with "ironhead bobber". The more frames that get cut, the more mine are worth.

Original ironhead frames are butt ugly anyway. at least the rear strut area.

The only OEM swingarm frames in the whole H-D history wich I wouldn't cut up (anymore...) are the '58-'64 Panhead frames..

For all the rest..where's that hacksaw ??!

exactly what i am thinking..I was just trading emails with Hammer in Hand about one of their weld-on's last week,...they are right up the road 40 miles...

in Michigan if you use a aftermarket frame, to get it titled...i think the title from the original bike gets turned in (not for sure)...............you have to provide proof of where the parts you used came from, receipts, titles etc...so it would be a worthless frame anyhow.

I can almost feel the saw vibrating in my hands!!!....

They all ways look better chopped up. ...

False. You dont turn in the title, it stays with the post 69 frame.

so I could buy a after market frame..and keep the title with the original?...

I have never used a aftermarket frame...always used the original..
