41 Third iteration

Hey all.

Just a quick update! I've finally finished and am happy with my knuck now.

33.4 flexed a lot and just didn't feel right, so I managed to get my hands on a nice old pan wide glide 4 over, (closer to 5" as the tubes are .65 over which I didn't know until recently when I looked it up), with some shovel trees. The reduced rake in pan trees would kill me as my frame is a 39 and doesn't have much rake to spare! I've also gone to shotgun pipes, which I've cut and adjusted a little as I wasn't happy as they were standard.

I also found an old bates which I've cleaned up and put on. A few little tweaks to things, rethreaded a few things but otherwsie it's a one kick bike. I have a prism 1/4 turn throttle, Dayten Likness jockey shift and recenlt installed a stainless 21" narrow front rim, my old one was bent as hell!

hope ya not badly fecked & recover fast,
on the rebuild, use grade 8 studs on the risers & never use old on anything your life or health depends on...
That's a low blow, Von W! Heal up fast Rhys.
Get well soon Rhys. You were so adamant about this being the final iteration and yet here we are....

The bike came off very lightly, Mike. bates headlight exploded and a little roashrash on my paughco outer tin.. I can live with that!

Thanks all, much better already! can move without creaking again!

That is good to hear Rhys. This could have gone much much worse.....

Thank you! I was lucky, chose a piece of road to test me where there's no obstructions, parked vehicles or the like. But yeah.. lucky as hell!
Ah yes its only a flesh wound I’ve had worse < one of montys boys said that

many have bit the street and the scars are the conformation your out of your mind - some would say

you proved that by talking about the bike damage not what happen to you -

most on the site would do the same thing - get well soon we love pictures

The holy grail! haha. One of the best.

There's nothing to show really, I'm beaten up but healing very quickly! The bike has a few scrapes, but the only real damage was to my headlight which is gone, and some bits with throttle, where the bars came free, and I hit the floor, the cable/spring/return etc all really bent. In the midst of repairing!

Not to jump in front of the camera, but I had a set of bars fracture between the clamps, where the bars were drilled for a switch wire. This was on Highway 101, going into San Francisco, in about 1971. What I remember most compellingly about the moment was how silent everything got, in my head anyway. It's a funny feeling, innit Rhys?

I had about 2 seconds to try and react from no going head on into a car, but yeah. Don't remmeber much of it!

When you have nothing better to do, would you clarify this please? I (guess I) mean: 0.65" over what?

Hey bud, the tubes are '4 over' but in actual fact they're 4.65 in length. I'm not sure if this is common through the newer tubes and front ends.. so mine is much closer to 5 over!
I supposed it was something idiotically straightforward like that, but then my mastery of supposition, never a skill worth writing home about in my case, has been on the skids for a few decades now. Thx.
If ya wanna used lite pm yer address, I've one laying around.
Rhysmort, glad to see you here, man.

I've not got studs in this one no. I've never seen a 2 piece clamp with studs if I'm honest mate. I've got some nice new bolts in there and some studlock on them. Had to chase the threads out, looked like it had been in the sea for 20 years. Guy kindly gave it to me free so no complaints.

Just have to call bullshit on your claim to final final version.
