Hey everyone!

Tonight I attempted to adjust my timing on my project bike. A 1978 Sportster. I have a factory manual that only goes down to 1979 and a Clymer book that covers my year but does not talk about static timing and what marks to adjust it with. When adjusting it with the bar in the timing hole the engine ran too hot. Am I using the wrong mark? I'm trying to get it close enough to start it and use a strobe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Make sure your points are in the advanced position when using that mark. Try retarding it a little from where you've got it.
