We have a 1970 650 Lightning with 1300 miles. Been sitting in storage for 5 years in the BAHAMMAS (salt air). The bike is ready for updating (undecided direction). Lots of rust on chrome. My first thought was to get it running (fresh fluids) & then decide if a tear-down is warranted. Also...

I started this bike project thinking I could throw together a basket case in my parent's basement for a nice little scooter. My goal was to spend ~$5k and be done in one year. A little over three years later, I can tell you that the budget didn't survive any better than the schedule. I...

Hello, I've browsed through old posts and found similar problems but never anything that was resolved.. I'm not a mechanic, but I'm building a up 69' lightning (twin carb) for some reason I can't get the left cylinder to fire. It was backfiring here and there for a bit but now only...

Rebuilt motor, less that 200 miles on it. - Recently had the rotor and stator replaced.. So i took it out for a nice little ride. And after about 15 min, it starts to chug, (and backfire if i am stopped and revving the motor) and I have to goose the throttle to get it going.. If I give it too...
  5. New? Introduce yourself here!
I'm new here, but old to bikes. Currently working on a 57 pre unit Triumph T110 Tiger in a 66 Norton featherbed frame. Also on a 96 or so Harley XR750, a 66 BSA Hornet, 71 BSA B50, and 81 Yamaha SR500 thumper. I have typical shade tree mechanical abilities, which don't stop me from blundering...

In the winter of 20100/2011 my brother and I got wind of a BSA chopper for sale. So we went and checked it out, turns out the guy who had it was in a wheel chair, and had traded his camaro 15 years earlier for the BSA. He previously had it in his living room with the headlight wired up like a...

  10. New? Introduce yourself here!
Been peripherally aware of this site for quite some time, but been into Japanese bikes mostly, so not spent a lot of time here. Well that all changed when I couldn't resist a deal for a '67 BSA Hornet frame with a hardtail on the local CL. Long story short, I'm getting a crash course on Brit...

First of all, here is a couple of pics of my bike. Pretty different from what it looked like last time I posted any pictures. Now, about how much room should I have between my tire and lower tree on the springer? I dont have much at all when the trail seems to be correct. Distance from tire...

I am looking for the input of people who have owned, or worked on, the 1971-2 BSA B50SS, and that have the "knack" for consistently starting these machines. Hopefully a few of you could share the sequence of actions or subtleties with me, on getting this machine on the road. I got it running...

Ok, I have searched the forum and still haven't found an answer to my question. Will a sportster rear hub work on the rear of my hardtailed BSA Thunderbolt? I only ask because I want to run a rear disc brake. Will the center of the hub line up w/ the center of the bike (is that even as important...

Over the last few weeks I've been up in the Sierra foothills hunting down parts for my little 50cc Honda Mini Trails and have "stumbled" upon two rare Brit bikes that have piqued my interest, but like many of you, cash is real lean right now. The first is a 1970 Triumph Bonneville T120RT. I was...

My bike (1964 BSA) ran fine when I parked it several months ago... Now it wont start. Replaced the plugs, sprayed some carb cleaner in it, then a little starting fluid... it fires up for a second or two but then quickly dies... What do I do next? Keeping spraying the starter fluid & keep...

Hey all, So I've been scouring the internet looking for pictures of things I like (and equally as important, things I don't like...) as I'm in the process of selecting my first bike project. I'm finding that as it is true with kustom cars & hotrods (which is where I have auto & fab experience)...
