Default '81 shovel project...

A good friend decided to let me do a little overhaul on his shovel. It started out as a 1981 harley davidson sturgis and the original owner tore the bike apart but passed away before it was ever put back together. There was an estate sale and another shop ended up with the bike, but didn't get the original frame and cases for whatever reason....so, they transplanted what they had into a santee frame........yesterday we tore it apart, getting rid of all the excess. today i tacked together a set of pipes and i'm still playing with what lengths they are gonna be. probably gonna make the rear pipe a little longer. just to get an idea of how it would look, i tossed on an old wassell tank i bought off ebay a few years ago. this is what we have so far....

DISCLAIMER PLEASE READ, THIS IS NOT AN ORIGINAL STURGIS

On my '81 I went with a late style softail rear brake and floating rotor set-up. Not very noticable and stops waaaay better.

pretty bummed you did that to that bike...i'm not a huge stock advocate or anything, but those original Sturgis shovels are sweet...............been looking for one myself....
put it back stock and i'll buy it from you if you don't like it. swingarm cone shovels that NEED a makeover are a dime a dozen.

umm, did anyone read what i said, the bike doesn't have the original frame and it has STD cases. there are other parts that obviously aren't original either...parts were bought through an estate sale originally by another shop and they put what they had on a santee frame and it was titled as a special contruction. i bought it at a bike auction and a friend bought it off me...so just to clarify again, IT IS NOT AN ORIGINAL STURGIS....

To each his own as they say. Delkron, non original frame or not, the before scoot had my heart skipping a beat. FWIW, My transport guy just dragged an honest original 1980 Sturgis out of shed from way down in S. Dade. Its sitting here at my shop with a frozen motor and skads of mouse dung and 13 years of neglect on it. You know, the spend 10K and you'll still have a 5K bike type of deal, however it IS a real Sturgis, so if you know of any 'collectors' hit me up. TK.
