So here's where we are at. I realized I could just use old fender mounts, which I had two of, and I dont plan to carry too much weight, so just the two should do. I originally mounted it too far forward and it made the seated position way uncomfortable, so I had to move it back. I now have to plug the two extra holes somehow, probably just going to put a short bolt and washer through and call it a day. I'll probably put some heavy books in it and ride for a week or so before I trust my laptop and tools in it, but I'm happy I at least have the option now!

Maybe holes and he's trying to keep any potential water out?

It's just to cover the first mounting holes I drilled that did not work. I plan to get some short bolts and washers to plug those up with after I test this out for a bit and make sure it will work.

I have patched quite a few sportbike fairings together with plastic epoxy.
Find out what type of material the Pelican is made of and match up to that. Tape is already on one side so flip up the backside and pour into hole. May need to rough up the surface to get epoxy to fuse well. Might need to countersink each side a bit to form a plug that wont pop out of either side.

Copied from pelican website
What adhesives and/or paints can be used on the cases? Due to the nature of the polypropylene being chemically inert, very little will attack the material. That also means that very few adhesives and paints will adhere satisfactorily. For an adhesive, we have found that 3M’s DP-8005 two-part adhesive works very well with our case material. It has also been reported that “Shoe Goo” works very well. For paint, Krylon has a product out called Fusion that they claim will adhere to polyolefin-based materials like polypropylene. Yep, poly is a bitch to glue. Good luck. Might give black silicone a shot.

Polypropylene welding has been common for decades. My wife used to weld ABS and other sportbike bodywork similarly. Identify your plastic by recycling symbol
https://learn.eartheasy.com/site-fil...30479243-5.jpg then order appropriate filler rod. https://www.kingplastic.com/tips-for...hermoplastics/ Practice on scrap first if possible as with any other welding process. |
