I took a ride today with my friend and fellow JJ member Kaman to an engine builders shop in Bristol CT owned by a guy named paul matika. The guys a former racer (v twin record holder at Bonneville) and semi retired engine builder and he's putting a 56 pan together for Kaman. I noticed this huge piston and con rod hanging on the wall of the shop. I asked what the hell that thing was for, thinking a truck motor or something and he goes, "oh, that's out of one of my racing motors, I make them 160 cubic inches". he machines the cases, rods, jugs, heads, oil pumps and got know what the hell else for these motors. He shows me on his computer tons of pics of the machining process in various stages and old racing pictures, great stuff. I asked if all this was on his web site so I could share it but he doesn't have one. The most impressive thing was the dyno printout showing one of his motors making 340 rear wheel horsepower and 310 foot lbs of torque!!! In the picture is me holding the piston and rod. to give you an idea of how big this thing is , Kaman told me to put my fat arm in there. I'm 6'1" 425 lbs , look at the size of this thing! I wish I had more of his pics to share!

Friends of mine have a Matika Engined Race Bike..
Used to run out of Ga, someplace by Atlanta..
That thing was the Berries..Only 140 Cubes I think tho..
I will try to find Pics.
160Cu.In. Sportsters are almost Normal from S&S Racing.
But the Matika Engine is Unique...Has a very Edgy, "Carved from a Single Block" Look

The crankcase down in the milk crate in pic #2 doesn't have much meat left around the cylinder studs! It would be interesting to put a strobe on the assembly during a dyno run to see the motion.

Matika, the Hausler Bros., Jim Young/Mike Magaro, Fitzmaurice /Zehner are the guys that used to make the shit run before all the crate motor /kit bike bullshit. Plus they could all ride like ten motherfuckers.

Hmmm. Only the NHRA has "crate" Motors...
We still have Individual accomplishments.

I always wished the AMRA could have had more of a presence in the Northeast, because of their class structure (non -index heads -up classes). It was AHDRA that had the S&S 124", V-Rod Destroyer and Tea -Bagger classes, not NHRA.
