Evening all!
After my ride last weekend it was time to tighten everything. I retorqued the heads, front was good, rear needed a little more. Now, upon doing this, and since I did the bike is idling really rough, coughing through the carb etc. The bike revs and picks up freely but idles terribly? I'm really stumped. 3 of the bolts torqued down and it's gone from running superbly to terribly. Any input welcome!

I don't know how much torqueing you did, but years ago I had this issue, and ended up re adjusting the pushrods.

Anytime I re torque heads and cylinders, if I get movement, I check and adjust pushrods/tappets. I also use a o ring intake from a pan with adapters and check the clamps often.

Thanks for the input man! yeah I checked pushrods, all real good. I gave the plumber nuts a tiny pinch up and it's running like a champ again!

My flatty, you could get it to run well on varied settings if you wanted to fart about with it. I caught the HS needle on this M35 with my hand putting my fuel on and moved 5? clicks maybe richer, bike was running like I'd put diesel in it. Of course, It's why a lot of folks put an M74B on them, with the fixed jet it's less precious.

Haha! what's wrong with that!??
The bikes name is 'Snake Charmer' but if I referred to "HER" as that people would frown!!

If valve lash is set in thousands of an inch, then changing the stack height of the cylinder and head assembly by re-torquing the head bolts would definitely have a noticeable effect. Jason |

To piggyback on that, this is why I always loosen the top motor mount before a retorque.

Yeah I loosened it all off. We're back to running good today. The rear plug was running a little lean, turns out the retorque sorted it!
Running and riding great. 25 tooth was the best thing I've ever done.

Makes good sense, guess I'll have to be more cognisant of that on my next re-torque although I do check valve lash. Good reminder. |
