Default BT flathead oil pump upgrade

*DISCLAIMER: I neither own, nor know anything much about these motors.*

However, I have been looking into some mods to the oil pump for my 900 Sportster, and I stumbled upon this. Seems too good not to share - hope it’s helpful to someone on here. It looks like one of those sites you should probably print off and file away before it gets eaten up by the internet and lost forever

Lot of modifying on those cases.

I believe the hot ticket is 4-vane oil pumps nowadays. Much less destructive, IMO.

Don't suppose if you know if mine is a 2/4? is it worth the upgrade? will my engine actually melt at 9999 miles?

Paul at American Cycle Fab originally designed it, then V-twin ripped it off.

I did the Sporty oil pump mod for my '39 WLR. There are no modifications done to the engine case, only mods to the oil pump to make it fit the flatty. It works great, although since the Sporty pump is taller, it sticks down farther & fouls the exhaust pipe . I made new exhaust for my bike anyway, so that wasn't an issue for me.
The mods to the pump are extensive, but not too difficult. It just took a little while to get it all done. No welding, just some machining & fab. I used an earlier pump (-52 part number, I think). In retrospect I would rather have used a later one (-72 p/n?) cuz it has higher volume.
One area I deviated from Dick Linn's suggestions, was that I did not use the old feed pump at all. I made a "distribution block" from aluminum that goes in place of the feed pump. It takes the supply line from the Sporty pump & feeds oil into the correct place in the gear cover.
