18” rear wheel

I’m looking for some help with spoke length. I’m wanting to build an 18” wheel, star hub, Kelsey Hayes replica rim. What length spokes will I need? I have read conflicting posts, some say 8” is fine, some say 8 1/4”. Please help!

Buchanan's used to provide a chart for figuring spoke lengths. I wonder if this would work?

I've found Buchanan's to be extremely helpful in providing information when lacing non-standard rim/hub combinations. 626-969-4655 Don't know if you can currently get a hold of anyone there but they have indicated spoke lengths and lacing configurations (different side to side for one wheel I laced) for me in the past. Helps if you are buying their products.

Thanks for the info. I read recently with the Rona going around, Buchanan’s cannot be reached. I’ll try some more researching on the inter webs.

The 8" spokes are for the late 60s and up XL rear drop center rims . I just laced one, the spokes were 8" long. They will fit the same for a star hub., so the 8 1/4" would be for the 30's up conventional rim.

Buchanan prepackages the spokes you need for that application in cad, stainless or chrome. Have you tried contacting them directly? I have been in contact with them this past week about custom spokes for an AEE spool hub to a 19" rim.
