go check out flyrite choppers they did a little series called the 7 deadly sins and the tanks are similar to that one, hope that helped, have a good day bud

Oh man....that's a tight little panhead! Love all the finned aluminum covers on the pans and the primary. Yea...that works fer me!!!
I believe you've hit it correctly...the parts are fully painted and cleared in the usual fashion, and the clear is then scotchbrighted, you do your artwork using Sharpies...then it's re-cleared, sandwiching your work between clearcoats.
