Default Any Good Fuel Additives to Clean Valves, Etc.

I would like to add some and ride it around a little before I put the 73 FLH away for the winter. I have read good and bad about Sea Foam. Any other recommendations. I may be having a valve problem and want to try this first before taking it apart next spring. Thanks.

It's my opinion that fuel additives meant to clean the fuel system, valves, and combustion chamber are mostly ineffective. My recommendation would be a proper repair. Fuel preservatives, on the other hand, seem to help in long term storage situations. Choose one and try it. Probably won't have any negative effects even if it doesn't help.

a buddy is an Aircraft mechanic, he told me that what they do with aero engines to de-coke them is to get them up an running to temp, then to spray from an atomiser bottle Break Fluid through the carb into the motor, (more smoke than a Battleship laying down covering smoke!! so do it outside !!) ...he says when ya then take the motor down ALL carbon has been removed from the piston, head and exhaust valves and tract..........he says it's a CAA (FAA) aproved method and saves many hours taking a motor apart and cleaning by hand...... might be worth trying

BG 44K. The pour in is a little less potent than the FI cleaner but works well. Use it in my Jeep and Aprilia once a year. The Aprilia is the only one I disassemble enough to see the intakes. AT 110K miles the intake valves are clean w/little in the way of deposits. The problem with carbon is it's an element and cannot be broken down into constituents. So the bond must be broken and that's what 44K does. Ain't cheap but worth the expense.

I've put the stuff in a bike. Rode it around a bit then onto the dyno. After a few hard pulls the carbon begins it's exit from the exhaust like fireworks. Scared the crap outta me the first time it happened.

I have used sea foam for over 30 years and that stuff will clean up internals well if you use it right and it displaces water in your fuel. I put it in my boat for winter storage and have never had any problems starting it when summer rolls around.

try the brake fluid in an atomiser...even JEEP used to recomend it... once done you can just carry on riding OR take apart for a clean start to ya re-build,...and it is damn cheap !!....

Misting water into the carb will clean the carbon the same as Marvel Oil or brake fluid, but without the smoke screen. None of it is 100% effective.

Water... Give it some RPM and mist it thru the carb (with air cleaner off obviously) and that'll clean it up. Ever see a water cooled engine torn down after running with a leaking head/gasket/water jacket?? The cylinder, chamber, and piston are squeaky clean.

Pretty sure tap water is cheaper than those other chemicals too
