Moving along slowly..... opened up the sludge trap today, it was 1st time it had been open up, as all that have been down this road before , this is why you don't assume anything . Also got my generator back from a full re build . Waiting on mag rebuild and rear hub back from chromed so I can get rear tire built .

You rebuilding mag yourself or sending out? I'm in the same boat right now with a K2FC that i need a rebuild on, got info on a local guy here in phoenix but open to suggestions if you have experience with someone?

Build looks killer so far!

Finally able to get some garage time with the holiday the last few days. I know there are a lot of different ways and easier as well to do this conversion but this is how I approached it .I didn't want to have to re chrome my JD Springer since chrome is in great shape .Also trying to keep it as stock as possible so I'm using the stock pre unit ball bearings and neck cup set up . This will allow me not have to extend the rear legs. If I used a 7/8 Timken tapered bearing kit the top cup sits much higher on top of the rigid neck and I would have had to extend the rear legs so top Springer clamp can clear top of bearing cup and then spend more $$$ re chomping. Rear legs . I also wanted to get some practice on my lathe . I machined these sleeves that I will weld to the cups and bored them to fit the 7/8 neck stem . I still will need to extend stem about 1/2 .

LOVING the look of it man. Love the JD springer and I'm digging the speed holes in the head! Badass motor mounts too.

Just got my fully rebuilt mag back from Skip , if you need a mag or Dymo rebuilt he is great to deal with, great communication, runs a full test on mag ,lets you know what you need an don't need ,full cost breakdown before he does anything , and is very fair .If you need his contact info just PM me . Did the bright spark conversion, rewound armature , re magnetize magnets , new bearings , set end play etc.

Little more headway ,decided to change direction a little and change out the drag slick ,will still build that rim, tire combo but most likely not going to run it. I mounted up a NOS Pirelli 4.00x19 tire ,I really like the tread pattern on this tire , still fits that 60's style show bike look I'm going for .If not even more . Bolted up so empty cases , chrome time cover I picked up from Small City Cycles and the chrome engine plates that came with project .This made it 100% clear I'm going to go full show polish on engine, time to get dirty... Actually strongly considering sending it out , I would need to upgrade my buffer and get a lot more polishing gear to do the job correctly and not use all my vacation time up haha...Should have in roller very soon . My biggest struggle right now is the top rear bolt on section not being in line with back bone .For me its all about the stance of the bike , and my eye keeps getting pulled to this area , especially with the 19 being a tall tire .I'm only thinking and inch or so . Will also help me with my seat decision . I know it maybe considered sacrilegious to chop a perfect original factory rigid frame , but we shall see .

This is incredible - The stance of this on the first page got me excited, and every photo you posted up got me more and more into it. I love it!

One thing - that rebuilt mag. If someone is going to take the time to lockwire bolts, they gotta make sure to do it right! When you try to loosen one screw, it should be pulling on the lock wire to tighten the other one, and vice versa. I know its a (very) small detail, but considering this bike is FULL of small details I think you'd wanna know...

I'll keep following this one
