Thought I'd see your Tri tool to keep that piece square in the lathe mate.
Beautiful welding and a great idea with the tapered bungs, real nice.

I chucked that castle nut in with the live center instead of that alloy tool. Whatever works, right.

trans cases glass bead blasted...

Well, the inner cover's hole for the kickstart quadrant stop was screwed. I drilled out the inner cover to the next size up and turned this new stop. good as new.

Fourth gear bush was spent, so a later "unit" fourth gear with a new bush was in order. The rest of the gears were good to go.

The camplate was trashed too so a new replacement went in with the rest.

Camplate bushing leaks. I'm not a big fan of them. This is a solution to one of the many pre unit leaky spots...

Speedo drive leaks, not a fan of those either. I turned this o-ring equipped bit to make this leak a thing of the past.

Now it's on to the fun stuff!

did the engine breathe through here into primary?
because when i stop(After a thrash) i have maybe 2 teaspoons of oil under bike at crankcase breather(for sure some oil is misting out when running.
Also do you do anything at gearbox mainshaft bushing? (I'm using longer bronze bush)I have a weep there that flicks onto back of clutch basket i was thinking of putting an oil seal there.
thanks
HA! Funny you should ask these questions. I am currently developing a crank breather system that can be run with a stock, after-market or custom oil tank that will not spit oil on the ground, nor need emptying. It should be ready within the month.

Also, this week I hope to finalize a practical solution to the counter-shaft bushing leak too. If there is any interest in any of these pre unit leak killers, I may put some or all of them into production.
Cheers, Dan.

Excel 21 and 16 rims back from getting drilled.

...after media blasting.

...after masking nipple countersink holes...

...back from powder coating

...back from Buchanan's Spoke, with ss spokes and nippples, and with new rubber mounted. Pic has maximum distortion on the 16 rear

Why did you mask inside?
to avoid scratching or you sealed nipples with silicone?

I did that so I wouldn't have to drill excess powder coating from the holes and countersunk recesses. Long term, I feel it is better for the nipples to seat directly on the alloy rim, as designed.

Ha! Yes! The shop that does pc for me gives me all the blue tape I can use. I guess he likes the fact that I clean, media blast, and mask everything I bring him. That way, all he has to do is rack, powder, and bake. He even gives me media too. That's why I always give him a mention when I get featured in mags.

The correct tape will live in the oven.

Masking tape, etc won't.

More little details..
Since I use non-Brit front brake parts/cables and make my own cables for the clutch, and use non-Brit hand controls, this is what I start with...

For a better fit/function, I turn these adapters for the adjusters/cables. Sometimes I leave then exposed, sometimes I heat-shrink them with the cables.

Thanks Bob! I have a few more details to show

First on the list is putting these bloated tanks on a diet...

Laying out the cut lines was fun. Just for the record, the left and right tank are VERY diffferent, account for that if you plan to chop them.

Even with the asymmetry, I still wanted them to have, well, symmetry. So, after chopping the inboard fat off, this is how I got some symmetry with flat-bottoming the tanks; tacked them together so the tops had the same overall flow left-to-right, then tacked the pair to my table. From that point marking the cut-off line was easy.

This is the removed blubber, but now I had to make them able to hold gas again.

The bottoms went on first, even though this one says "top"

Then the sides were formed and marked for their respective tank. .

TIG, TIG, TIG...

This set got top and bottom cross over tubes so it can be filled/used just like they were originally intended.

After being pressure tested, and mounts completed, they were off for body work...
