Shed Time

After a pretty crappy week.

A friend found out they have cancer , another had a mild heart attack & me old mum had a car crash.

I went out to the shed & stared at the t-bird for about 20-30minutes.
Then spent an hour or two replacing fuel lines & filters,putting on new plug leads etc. Then fixing the taillamp wiring to finish up.

Sometimes i think it's not just about riding these old bikes.
Maybe, sometimes it's just about spending shed time with them.
Cause im feeling a whole lot better than i did a few hours ago.

Tomorrow El Skitzo & i are gunna cruise down the coast for a couple of hours.

Aint been the best week here either. Broke 2 ribs at my OT cycle race last weekend, and had to work "through the fog" this week.

ya,life is allways throwing shit at us . I truley believe that ,if not for SHED TIME id loose my mind. Its akin to when your out riding, you think of nothing else but the ride. Sorry about your friends and hope your mum is OK. sometimes other peoples problems make owers look small.

Sorry to hear the bad news...but the shed time is golden. I was just explaining to my sis yesterday about the shed time. We have a family business that is facing a little adversity and I am in the process of ending a five year relationship. We were talking it over. She asked how I can be so calm during it. I told her the shed does it for me. I can go out and start working with the triumph of the hd and completely lose myself for several hours. It is the best therapy in my opinion.

Yep, life throws some shitty curves at us now and then...it's nice to have a therapeutic outlet, like the shed or whatever else turns your crank. Don't feel like you're alone, I believe it was Shakespeare who said, "Into each life some rain must fall." He was right.

Shed time and grinding/making sparks and "beatin' hell out of something with a hammer" could just replace psychiatric visits if the rest of the population found out. We're got to keep this secret, just between us.

Yep, nothing like going out to my garage and turning a chunk of metal into a bunch of shavings at the end of a long day. No joke, it's extremely therapeutic to go out there, turn on the radio and zone out with the smell of burning metal in the air!

Yeah I'm hearing you - here's a different side to it - Losing your shed.. this happened to me effectively 12 months ago, the loss of a small place to build my bikes was devestating - yeah I'm going to say that was the feeling - devestating I ended up getting anti-depressants for the first time in my life.. The magazine has saved me really, (Junk) without that I think I'd have gone crazy or have gotten into the ol' cordless bungy if you catch my drift.. But I was saved.

Supposed to be 10 below tonight!! Just makes the summers rides more sweet, I just put another log on the fire, open the fridge for a cold one and think of the summer rides and good times to come. Thats how I remedy my crappy week and even a good one

nice SHED, man i could live in that one!!!!LOL mine is a 12x12 shed,buired in about 4 ft solid ice/snow all around. Ill dig out a path in a couple of days,turn on my propane heater for 10 min, nice an toasty. cant wait!!

I completely agree, a year ago next week I lost my father to a sudden heart attack.. I cant explain how thereputic it was to be in my garage working on my mustang over the past year, using some of his tools to put it together and tear apart what I screwed up when I had a little too much to drink.. I don't think it matters much what you've got to work on as long as you're workin' on something. The echos of past girlfriends seem to be drowned out by music, the stress of work seems to melt away as the night goes on.. I don't know if its because we are doing something that we love, or perhaps it could be from inhaling rust penetrant oil and fumes in an enclosed area for a few hours at a time.. Either way..

I hear ya man. These past two months have been horrible for me, found out my wife has breast cancer, and although we're told the prognosis is good so far, it's been and still is the most scared and upset i've ever been in my life. I went out yesterday and started messing with the old Triumph I got, pulled the motor, took the primary cover off and started cleaning stuff up. It felt good to just take a break from being super stressed out and take my mind off things.

We call bike night at my local shop "church" for a reason. It does your soul good to be around like minded people. To let go of work and life and any other BS that you been carrying around all day. A time to make old things work again, to bring projects to life. To laugh, talk, smoke a cigar or just chill with cold drink.

About 30 years ago I build a shed with an old old dude that gave me some great advice. He'd been married for over 50 years and said he loved that woman like no other but still (here's the quote) " a man needs a place he can go to get away". That's your shed.

Rodman - dude that story is cool - always been my dream to hang out and fix the ol' stuff with a bunch of like minded people - not quite achieved that yet - mainly worked alone so far but one day I hope..

Me to I turn on the little jet blower/heater my shed/garage is only 9x18 so it heats up nice still it's hard to stay in there when it's 7 degrees this winter is cooooollldd

The decent lighting and the little Hot Dawg heater that I installed last spring have been the best investment I've made in a looooong time. Really helped make my own personal "shed time" a lot more enjoyable and productive. My wife has hardly seen me at all this winter!

The best part of the board for me is to see other peoples garages and sheds, shops etc, in the background of their bike pictures. My shop seems to have become a sanctuary for all sorts of fellas without one. A nice laid out shop is art.

Yep I agree! If it wasn't for my shop I would have lost my mind long ago. Just installed a new wood stove out here this winter. My wife don't quite get it but she knows it keeps me sane.

And she probably doesn't mind, cause I know what you look like! By the way, that chassis nearing completion?
