Default 33and 36 crankcase numbers

I spotted this for sale how do the numbers look? (The 36 engine no.looks fishy?)
Bike was fitted with 36 and 33 was supposedly original from bike.

I'm no Eric SpeedingVTwin but this 36 numbers look false to me. The 33 numbers look fine but the scratches are a no-go for my money. Was the vin pad ground down then re-stamped? What the fuck do I know?!

The 36 serial number is not consistent with factory stamping. I donít know what they tried to indicate by BVFD, assuming the first letter is supposed to be B?

For 1936 there was a VFD although I havenít got a clear example to post. But the VLD below will be fine for comparison of some characters. For 1936 some letters were seriffed, some were sans serif and at least one letter (H) changed from seriffed to sans serif during the 36 model year. Vs were sans serif for 36. Also notice the 3s have a flat top, a vertical serif at top left and a long diagonal. And notice that although this 6 does not really have a round back, neither is it a straight-back style; instead it has what is sometimes referred to as a curved back.

Regarding the 33, Iíd prefer better photos if possible but I canít see anything wrong yet. Perhaps what appear to be scratches on the number boss are striations and Iíve seen them in the casting before and not just for 1933. Sequence portion looks like 3538? If so then itís consistent with that style of left case because the case has a couple of changes introduced during the 1933 model year.

Apparently the VF was only made for 1933 and I havenít got a photo of one but here is a 33VLD for comparison of some characters. Notice the V has serifs but thatís normal for 1933. Also notice that although the 3s have a flat top they are a different style to what was used for 1936.

The VF was low compression and had nickel-iron pistons. There was also a sidecar version (VFS) and both are included in the layout sheet for 1933 models.

I don't know why my previous post has spread out right across the screen but I've noticed the same thing happening with posts from a few other people in other threads. Perhaps it's something to do with my computer?

In the pic of Richbob's suspect '36, the B or 8 looks to my ignorant eye like an H that has been clumsily messed around with.
