I just pinstriped something 2 days ago with one shot red on top of black acrilic enamal paint...will it hurt the one shot if i spray acrilic enamal clear over top of it all now? or would it react with the one shot?..oh and I didn"t thin the one shot at all..
its fresh only a few days old?

try a test panel, but it's probably going to wrinkle up the 1shot. If you are going to go for it, give it a very light first coat, with time to flash off until it's mostly dry, then follow with heavier coats.

I would give it a couple more days....just to make sure it is completely dry..then do a "dust coat" ...then build coats ..slowly.
any reason you are going with Acrylic enamel rather than urethane?

Depends on the solvent in the clear.
I ruined a job last week, using the wrong stuff. Not happy. Rob Axle has the right idea.

The one shot over the enamel is very durable, if it gets scratched off, touch ups will be easy. Chances of messing up all of your nice work by clearing it is very good. I'd leave it alone. It will be fine.

Most cars don't have their stripes cleared over.

If you used the hardener with the One-Shot, I would like your chances. Without it... my experience is that it will likely wrinkle around the edges a little/lot almost no matter what you do when spraying the clearcoat. That's why i only use HOK striping enamel... I've literally NEVER had it wrinkle when I clearcoat over it.
Good luck, man. If you go for it, allow it to sit a few days and spray the first couple coats of clear VERY lightly in hopes it will "seal" out the solvents from the later, heavier coats. www.flamethrowercustoms.blogspot.com www.flamethrowercustoms.com |

Dry spray first couple of coats of clear. Then spray wet coat after several dry cots. Allow dry coats to dry well before the wet coat. It can be done over HOC if you stripe with it instead of one shot also. Dry spraying a few coats works.

I can't really add much to what is already said, so I'll just concur that the lines will probably wrinkle with a good coat of clear. The longer you let it cure, the better your odds are of a clean outcome. The 1-Shot hardener helps, and HOK striping paint is made to be cleared over.
You have the right idea by just letting it be. 1-shot is tough as hell, and traditionally striping wasnt cleared over. Cart looks pretty good, btw. Don't touch it, I'm sure your daughter will be stoked. |

HOK is designed to be cleared over.
Different chemistry.

Ian, dident they have a reducer that you could use with HOK striping paints if it wasent going to be cleared over. I think it used to leave the paint with a gloss. I don't know if HOK still makes that product.

IIRC, it needed to be catalyzed, if you were not clearing over it.
The opposite of 1-Shot. I've only used it enough to say Yes. Price and availability were part of that decision.
