Default 49 triumph bobber rebuild

I bought this on ebay last year. Slowly going through bike sorting it out.
First was sorting out front wheel (rear is next)
Never done a wheel before did some reading on the net, talked with a specialist
wasn't that difficult got it within 1mm up and down and side to side(just took time)
Ive ordered 2 pwk carbs,Maund manifolds,Maund velocity stacks
wheel build to follow

yea i think she's a keeper also here in uk pre 60 bikes need no MOT (roadworthy test)
so a bonus and as bikes in italy i dont have to go back and get one.

Ive been in England gathering parts
only one thing left is an ATD for lucas k2fc mag
i cut the pipes (stainless) and had a mate weld in a straight section,
Im going to have them shot blasted (bead whatever?) so they come out matt.
The engine i was told has been rebuilt but im going to strip and be sure.

This is a suggestion:the stainless will certainly be matt BUT will show up every bit of dirt and look unevenly stained real quick-so shoot some clear matt exhaust paint (like VHT) over the stainless to keep it clean (unless you want the patina look).
I work with blasted finish stainless steel in my job and it can go from clean to scuzzy real quick-and often the only solution is to reblast or to wipedown with stainless cleaner ,but exhaust heat kinda kills that.

Cool Re: 49 triumph bobber rebuild

You have a nice bike richbob, it looks real good now so can only imagine the completed build and look forward to it.

Looks like an aftermarket rigid rear section....do you know who made it ?

That's a great looking scoot. I love them pre-unit. Just one sexy motor if you ask me.

richbob, you could use scothbrite pad for a linish type finish, which can look real good. The pads/strip are available in different grit sizes at industrial supply shops and it is real easy to touch up should it need doing.
If you want to go one step further Hand-rail manufacturers have a special hand held linisher that wraps around tube when it "sands" ,if you find a willing shop they might do it for you real cheap.
Cheers R

Cool Re: 49 triumph bobber rebuild

Since you don't want chrome, I think the pipes would look good in high heat/high temp black on your bike.
