Default Anyone run an Edelbrock Quicksilver?

I searched, but I want some more feedback. I am building up my 79 IH motor with Q cams, wiseco forged 10:1's, fresh bottom end, Manly ss valves, and hardened seats. I have been running a s&s e on the bike previously in stock trim, and have an S&S e on my 73 IH with the same setup as above, but with P cams, so I know they work well, but I got an Edelbrock Quicksilver in a lot of parts I horsetraded for. I have heard they are junk, but others say they are easy to tune. I always had good luck with edelbrock carbs on my sbc motors. I'd like to hear from some who have run this carb please.

I have a Quicksilver aircleaner on my Bendix carb on the Pan.

Not sure why the previous owner removed it.

I have heard they are a bear to tune because of everything being adjustable, but dont have any personal experience.

Lemme know if you need an aircleaner, wanna put something different on mine.

had a quicksilver once

bad mistake, bike would red line in top gear everytime you opened the trottle but gas consumption was shocking, about 25 miles to the gallon

mikuni or s&s are far better carbs

not looking for gas mileage with this bike. more of a mild performance machine that i just want to be fun for ridin' around town. other than the mileage, it worked well for you though? I figured the flat slide would perform better than the butterfly setup on most other carbs.

I had one on my Shovel back when they first showed up on the market. Worst three months my bike ever ran. Runs exactly the way you would expect a single needle/slide system to operate. It either works on the lower end or the upper, not both.
Replaced it with an S&S "E" and never looked back.

it will work better than the stock setup but you will have to stop at every petrol station and fill up, the gas consumption is that bad

the quicksilver is just as bad as the two troath carb
bad fuel consumption and runs like a bitch ...i never wanna touch any of them ever again !!!!!!!!!!!!

i hate these carbs !!

if you wanna go faster and play with performance take a modern mikuni flatslide carb or a dellorto race carb
just my 0.2

had one that had the heaviest spring for the return..... i'd ride 10 miles and have a cramp.... went to a "stock" spring and it wouldn't touch it..... took everything apart and cleaned, mic'd and polished it up thinking maybe it was just too tight..... still wouldn't return worth a crap

put a CV or super E on there and forget it

mine seems to be in good mechanical condition, returns freely without excessive spring tension. how was the performance and tunability though?

it was on the bike when i got it..... so i never had a chance to get to know what was up with it.....

It's an Edelbrock.... simple stuff really, just car parts fit to a bike
run it and if you don't like it just change it....its your bike and your ass will tell you if you like it or not
