Default No!!! Another flipping old Jonghi...

Hi...

Was a bit bored yesterday... Was looking at this bike I couldn't bid on cause it was in Belgium, some sort of local site for local people (check The League of Gentlemen on YouTube for clarification on the "local" moniker...)

Anyway, mailed a friend in Belgium so he could bid on my behalf...

He told me 1) he knew the guy, here's his mail, and 2) the bike was in France, GET ON WITH IT!!!

Which I did... Even more surprized when the seller accepted my 1st gambit :O )

So.… Got to organise a trip to the outskirts of Paris to collect this little vintage gem...

It's a 100cc Prester-Jonghi from 1937/1938, sort of the moped of the day, but better engineered than most...

So long, Patrick

The pointed, ovoid and fluted exhaust mufflers are a stylistic touch, no-need to go to the extra expense, except that it's like a Puch or Batavus, or maybe a Kreidler: premium content for those who can afford to buy a better-designed, better-built machine at a premium price.

I assume it's a single w/twin-exhaust? Can you get any better shots of the girder front-end? I assume it uses some-sort of adjustable friction damper, and it's sprung for jounce/rebound? The gas tank looks huge for such a small displacement. Do you know if it's original to the bike? Is it a huge tunnel under there? It appears to be possibly a 4 gallon/~16 liter tank.

The narrow, small-dia front drum brake reminds me of Ettore Bugatti's famous quote, when queried about why his car's brakes were minimal, compared to other similar cars (Duesenbergs had juice brakes since 1924), "I build my cars to go, not to-stop!" Maybe for the modest output of the engine, such a small stopper is adequate.

Only thing missing on the bike is the OEM pedal gear, t'was replaced with proper footrests...

Apart from that, it is as OEM as it came out of the factory.

Gas tank would be about 2 galls me think without looking at the specs...

Period shot:

Worth it for the Flash Gordon muffler alone.
