Thanks for posting these.
Awesome pics.
The "Tumblebug" looks sort of familiar....I think either I or my father have a picture of it at an indoor car show in Boston.
The guy across the street from where I grew up had a Chevy van shortened like tumble bug in the Mid "70's with a wild metal flake paint job. It was Called "NO BIG THING" He used to pull out into the street and pull wheelies for all of us kids.
You won't hear me saying this often, but that trike rocks! Why do most modern trikes look like someone stuck three wheels on a sofa, and then vomited chrome on it? This one almost looks like it might have been an inspiration for that trike Russell Mitchell built a few years ago (not that I am sure he would admit it - he invented the internal throttle, you know...)
Here is my uncle on his Sporty. The second time he blew the motor it sat in my parents basement as a roller. I would climb on it and make motor noises. He sold it to some guy that ended up wrecking it.
My friend Luigi mentioned that he raced bikes and showed me this picture. Luigi is Italian and is 75 years old. The picture was taken in Uruguay in 1954. Luigi is standing in the shadow on the far right. He raced bike #15, both bikes are 125cc Puchs from Czeh. Top speed is about 130mph. He raced in Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay. The fairings were planished by hand from aluminum by "Enrique" kneeling in the middle of the picture.
One thing I noticed about all of these old pics is like old trucks they used to actually use the bikes and ride them every where, not just build them to look pretty in a garage. I'm not bashing, I just often wonder what these old timers would think of all the money we throw into making bikes all shiny just for show.
