Hello:

I have a 71 Shovelhead that was redone a few years ago. its been burning oil I had someone do the heads last year and install new valve seals. it keep smoking after a while. I took the top end off, and the cylinders thinking it time for new rings. How can I check the connecting rods to see if there still good?
Thanks,

you can take the front rod in your fingers and twist it in a circle - any thing more then a slight movement turning it back and forth - its due - new they have no movement in a finger turning circle -- yet are free / smooth to turn in the direction of rotation as you rotate the engine around

Agree with all the above. Up-and-down play on the crankpin is no bueno, too.

I'm not far from you. Yell if you need help.
