When I was 16 or 17 I heard a story about an older guy who had a few WL 45's with a bunch of extra spare parts in his basement (about 4 miles from my place...) I knew what street and I heard it was under a shoe-shop..
He was also a member in a vintage military vehicle club with Willy's Jeeps, GMC trucks, etc..
The story went on and on over the years.. About 3 months ago the pops died so I heard... And the 45's were going to be sold..
To make a long story short.. I made an appointment with his wife and daughter this past monday..and almost 30 years after the first story that came to my ears, me and a buddy walked down the stairs to the so famous basement..
This is what we dragged out after she accepted my buddy's second offer.. Christmas is early this year overhere..!!
('38 -'39 -'41-'42) and a shitload of cylinders, heads, cases, complete engines, gearboxes, 15 Linkerts, primary covers, star hubs, brakes..etc.. some of those still in greasepaper and newspapers from the fourtys..
The after is very cool but the before was cool too. With it looking like it did I think I would have looked for another 45 to make into the after. But hey, like I said, the after is very cool.
THe dash with the v was used from 39 t0 43, and the the smooth one was from 44 to 46. I like the earlier ones, they look more refined and finished. They took a huge step backwards when the smoothed the dash out
i thought the difference had something to do with the military models or the civilian bikes
because i 've seen the smooth ones on the earlier models too ?!
ofcourse i could be wrong .....altough they looked org.
