wheel not in the center on a triumph

Im running a choppahead hardtail on a 68 triumph with stock spacers, the rear wheel is not in the middle of the frame it looks shit. i know there are threads on here talking about hardtail alignment but if the hardtail is straight and the sprocketts line up, can you ride like this or do i need to get the rim relaced off set?

You can ride lik ethat and most folks did back in the day,, i have been told even the old pre uint rigids were not dead center

It is offset to clear the chain. That looks normal to me. If the chain is aligned it's correct. You can't step the hardtail without using a jackshaft or something to step the chain path. Perhaps a full frame could off set the motor but that would look worse.

You could offset it or ride it as is, my trump is like that and there's no problems with the ride quality.

I say ride it, I'm building one also and now atleast I know this information going in and I will not change a thing. It was meant to be. Can't wait to see the finished product for inspiration.

my bike is off center. as long as the chain lines up and its clears the tire and fender you should be all go.

so it is possible depending on who is building the bike, who laces the rim, and who builds the frame... I lace the rims, Factory Metal Works builds the hardtails... And if you look in the service manual, it will give you a description of how to tell if the 2 rims/tires are aligned, and yes it makes a difference in ride quality... Ever hear of "dog tracking?"

I am curious about the rim and tire size (above photo)..I have found with "fatter" tires mounted to Harley laced (to triumph hub)...there is some compromise with the off set to clear the chain and keep some kind of alignment

Dont use a fat tire... mt90-16 is whats on that bike.... Cant use a 5.00x16 it will look like the first pic...

i had a spacer cut to put between the rotor and the drum.
moved the tire over to center it , and the chain still lined up..

I just laced mine offset, worked a charm. unless your tyre is to wide?

what brand (Shinko Classic...??)of tire are you using, and a where is a good source..??

Thanks, yeah I keep a VERY clean shop... It makes life so much easier when you have a neat work area and tools get put away every day... Shop gets swept and cleaned about once every 2 weeks.. I am the only person working in my shop.. My brother only does Harley engine work and services, he runs my old mans business also.. I have the only Triumph shop within a 200 mile area.. The first thing people say when they walk in my shop is how clean and neat it is... Would you want to bring your bike to a shop thats filthy with greasy shit and junk laying all over the place??

Hate to object but that doesn't look right. I have the same HT from them and mine is centered.

Maybe get a hold of Jay or Truth and ask them whats up with that. Of course after you go over all your parts and make sure they are installed right. My wheel has NO offset and the chain has plenty of clearance. JMO.

I had to adjust my rim to left of center in order to center the rim and have the sprockets aligned. 8ft. halogen bulbs laid on each side of the rear wheel work pretty good for centering/aligning the rear with the front. Just adjust to have equal gap on each side of the front tire. (also mentioned in the manual)

what front tires are you running on the Triumphs w/the Shinko..?...

Yeah if you use a 'fat' 16" tire, the wheel will be always offset to the right. I had a 5.10x16" Firestone on my Trump (3x16" Harley rim), had to lace the wheel 3/4" off center to clear the tire and even then it was super close, had to add a chain roller to minimize chain slap and marks on the sidewall.

Now I went back to a stock 18" rim with 4.50" Firestone and the wheel is exactly in the center... still room for the chain.
