I bought a panhead off craigslist. The previous owner said it only had one oil leak, a small leak on the rear rocker cover. He bragged that it would be the least leaking panhead anywhere I went. Pretty funny, I guess I can't go anywhere there might be another panhead. It leaks so much oil I think it is leaking oil out of the valve stems. I'm gonna try to chase down the leaks and fix em. I'm still stoked I have a panhead.

here is a picture. I rode it about 10 miles, then I changed the tank, bars, fender, and seat to what you see in this pic. There is a before in my intro. It blew the front headgasket Saturday night. I think it may have been leaking when I bought it. I searched the forum to see what brand and type were recomended. Now I need to pull the head off and check the bore to see if it has been bored out, so I dont buy a standard gasket when I need an oversized one.

The bore does not determine the size of the head gasket. Only a increase in cylinder size, would do that. So your options are smaller. Paper or copper. Copper is the best, IMO, because you can use them over and over. Plus, that was probably one of your oil leaks. Congrats on the find. They are getting harder to afford these days. Mainly due to the prices people want. Even the ones that blow head gaskets.

motherf'n JD. No really my mom's boyfriend JD pulled them out of his stash. They are a little crusty and have some holes drilled in them, but he gave them to me to try out and see if I like them. He is a cool dude, been riding and wrenching on bikes forever.

Nice bike, good starting point. Like the bars, good soft curves. if you can't match them, get the holes welded. Seat, forward controls and fender struts not to my taste, they look a bit "bolt-on". But then, it's not my bike!

is your rear brake held on with a clamp or is that the exhaust clamp? either way, awesome bike.

The frame is a vtwin. The brake has a tab. But it is about the only one on the bike. Everything else is attached with clamps. That was the first thing I noticed about the bike when I first saw it. It is a bolt together no fab build. I'm not out to change the world but I will do some fab work this winter.

Congrats on getting the pan. If it leaked that bad it probably wet sumped (mine used to). Something you might want to check into.

just add oil ...lol!!!! Hate opening a can of worms...You can fix one and then another and another etc. Unless its a simple gasket ofcourse. They all leak eventually.
