The crack in the frame has been welded and gussets are in place too... It should be stronger now.

I picked up a L carb and front end for the bike. The front end is a extended Indian girder, similar to "Bug Eyes" front end. the girder is on its way here.

The girder is here and it will need some love. I started taking it apart and it will get a new stem, the steering dampner top will get modified to take dog bone risers and i will cut it below the lower shackles and redo it to make it longer...

Here it goes, get out the sawzall... (It sucks to cut them off but i cant be married to the same handlebars, that would be boring) Im starting with the handlebars and cut them off and the dog bone risers will mount there. You can see in the pic more or less how it will be...

Before your latest show & tell, I thought it was a shame to cut that up. But I sure see your point; and the modification looks just fine; and anyway it's nothing that can't be undone. Nice work.

I did some research and it looks like the top shackles are 741 on this, my other bike bug eyes has sport scout shackles on it, im trying to learn the differences between the 741 and sport scout spring forks...

I remember those fenders in some of the chopper catalogs and magazine ads. I had a 47 Chief with a cut down front fender on the rear and that fender closely resembled it. Nice to see the frame repaired and going back on the road.

Good info about the fender Hank, very much appreciated. I have to give a very big thank you to Mike, it must be a year now give or take, i seen the girder online but could not purchase it at the time ...i showed it to him and he got it!!!!!! The girder stayed in its unusual package crate untouched. Long story short is he sold it to me I would not have it if it was not for Mike and I thank him.

The next one is going to hurt. The lower forks have been butchered in its past (look at the first pic on post #85) and imo have to be replaced so i will cut off the forks under the lower shackles. The front end that was on the bike had a 8 over fork that measures about to be 29.5 inches from under the lower tree to the axle hole so thats what im aiming for. I still need to figure out what 7/8 steel tube to use and then make axle plates similar to how my other girder was done.

^ i was trying to say the first pic of the front end Ratso, my bad... I can show a better pic if you want but it is nasty welds with maybe angle grinder cuts in rust...

Im almost glad it is like this because it has to be longer (Jaws would approve if he sees this) for it to work with my frame, and to cut something that was in good condition would be hard on the soul even tho i just cut something in good condition...

The risers were cut up today and are now also ready for welding. Im trying to decide weather to use a spool or mini drum 21' front wheel...

Like the risers! Spools are cool but in Maryland, I'd probably run the 21" mini drum.

I"m with Hank. I've ridden MD a lot, they are trying to kill you. Front brake is necessary.

Yes, Words of wisdom from you guys. My reason for a spool was because of using a disc rear brake. Generally disc is up front and drum is rear. That way it would not be backwards. Drum, Drum would be the way to go however i would like a 48T rear sprocket.... The plot thickens....
