Noise is present at idle, but as soon as you actuate clutch and put pressure on the hub to "open" it's worse.

I've replaced kicker side guts, no contact marks, straight as a die, no wear, oil like new no contamination although i've done 500+ miles on it. Hub fingers are all like brand new, no friction, the plates slide on and off at will.
Take some brake or carb cleaner and soak it while its making the noise. I mean really spray the crap out of it so the liquid will "lubricate" it some. The brake clean and carb clean will go away easy. I would do it with penetrating oil and once I get it to stop, I would clean the crap out of everything with petrol. But that is me and I'm a hack.

point is, if it can be made to change symptom or go away, it will be easier to pin point. Clean in up a mess after its fixed is minor.

Think we've found it!

So... my bike has a jammer kicker cover as Liam profusely put "a pile of dogshit kicker"

The ratchet and the kicker gear are coming into contact and that's making the noise.. it's so slight but a horrid noise.

Here's the kicker, if we remove the thrust washer off the shaft and put it back together, it stops the rubbing... and works okay. SO.. my question is, can I get away with a smaller thickness thrust washer, or can something be done to stop it?

More than one way to skin a cat!

Make it work....Who cares if anyone thinks it should be this way or that. If the fix works and will last, it IS right for it's application. Period.

Negative. In this case, that would allow the shoulder of the hardened kicker shaft to gnaw on the soft kicker cover and bushing.

Correct solution is to mill the piece-of-shit cover down to correct spec, or knock the shoulder of the shaft down by the same amount, IMO.

All done, back together and working as intended.

The kicker + ratchet were kissing, about 22 thou was all it took. All back together, cleaned degreased, greased and loctited. Been a busy weekend.

It wouldn't have been the end of the world to leave it, was no metal contamination or anything of the like. Just annyoing as fuck.

Thanks again to Liam for his patience and help, I had to roll my old man out to get tricky as it was above my ability.

Jammer covers aye!

What do you mean? Making it work is just that. Mill the cover or clearance or shim or combination.

Im with whatever makes it work. Only way to know is to do it. I havent had the pleasure of those shitbox covers....yet.

Is it a safe to assume you are measuring in mm not inches?

The way your post read, it made it sound like you were in support of removing the thrust washer as Rhys did to test it and leave that a permanent fix.

All's well that ends well.

Liam if it would have worked without it, I was for it. Still am if that actually fixes it. However that seems to not be the fix.

Like I said, Ive never dealt with one of those kicker covers, so Im for whatever fixes it. Following your advice.

Problem is the same on a factory/repop/or Jammer. The thrust washer is included for a reason and needs to be there.

Item #15.

I need to check on mine if that #15 is there.

Should get my parts today for the gearbox, but concentrating on making the springer bushes at the moment. Will start putting kicker together tomorrow or wednesday

It'll definitely be there mate, I'd be shocked if it wasn't. As I mentioned above worth checking see if you have similar to me with aftermarket parts. I had to take my clutch etc off to eliminate all elements. Liam was adamant it was in the kicker cover and he sure as shit was correct.

Brandt making it right was important for my sanity! As Liam and my father pointed out, without that thrust washer I'd be in all sorts of shit fairly rapid with the lateral movement!

Message to take from this is: aftermarket parts (Jammer) are a pile of shite.

Anybody have a pig snout in good condition I can buy!? haha

Hmmm. I have had a few non pig snouts that were whatever brand and never had this issue. I know that thrust washer... I agree it MUST be there or damage occurs. Seems to me I have used/made them when I didnt have anything. Huh.... weird.

Maybe I dont ride enough for them issues to show up....

Ill remember this one

Good diag. Carry on.

Guess what... It wasn't there!
No washer between spring and the kicker case. Have to make one...
But need to find out the thickness. Just great.. And I've cleaned the lathe from the mess the bone bar made from making the springer bushes hahaha

Always the way...

Strange.. So I put a washer where that #15 should be... Once I tighten the nut on the other end it tightens the kicker arm and it won't move freely..?

And yes I have a Jammer kicker cover.
