Default S&S carb problems

I have a S&S teardrop carburetor. The lever that you move to allow air intake(choke) needs to sit about half way down in order to idle at its correct level when riding. It was been working great and always seemed a little tight when you moved it but after today it wont sit center and feels loose and drops down with the shake of the engine and kills the bike if left to idle....at stop lights you have to keep turning the throttle to keep it idling.

I would like to know if there is a screw or adjustment you can do to fix this problem?

Hello Blacktooth (the pirate?)
The teardrop you are referring to is the style of air cleaner, not the carb. I am assuming and it sounds like you are running a S&S super E. I believe your idle adjustment needs tweeking in so it can idle up some more, idling to low is a bad thing, might sound cool but it's not good for your engine. You may want to disassemble the fuel enrichner, clean and lube then reinstall. Good luck.

The fast idle lever should not have to be at the half-way point for the bike to idle correctley. You need to find out why it has to be there. The backing plate has 2 screws that are in the lever. The bottom screw holds the lever in place, the top screw has a spring washer behind it that holds tension on the lever. Check to see that both are in place and tight.
It may be as simple as turning the idle screw at the cables clockwise a small amount to get the idle speed up. Get the lever fixed, then try adjusting the idle screw.

Did you just slap the carb on right out of the box? Need to set the float level, jets, then set accel pump, mixture and idle. None of these are set out of the box. You should never need the enrichener to run or idle after initial start up.
