Default Extended 4 speed clutch arm/release lever

I need to extend my clutch arm out a few inches so I have a nice straight shot to my clutch pedal. I tried chain, but it dances around a liiiittle too close to the primary belt for my comfort, so I'll thread up a rod and add Heim joints.

I've got a couple solutions at hand (making an extended stainless cap to put over the clutch arm, for example) but I wanted to check out some other ideas. I don't see any on the aftermarket after a quick search.

Are guys making arms from scratch, scabbing on extensions, what?

I think you need is the 1965-1977 police clutch release arm - I think that was longer.

But I am still new at this.

OK, mousetrap arm was longer for the same reason, to get that throw straight to the 'trap.

Yeah, mine was longer than Hutch's... he has what used to be a cable bike. My arm that got used with that trap you have now is lots longer.

Mine's not totally set up now, but I think when it's all adjusted up, I think it's going to hit my ratchet lid - might help with limiting overtravel.

Another Idea, on my 80 flt, I used the clutch cable through a peice of tubing mounted to the frame. Hands down, the smoothest foot clutch I've ever set up or ridden!

Pictures of what?

I know I can get this done, but sometimes I get so close to a problem I start thinking in a narrow line and may not see other obvious solutions.

Goose had the same issue. So he made his own. I think he cut the "eye" off the end and bent up some round stock, cut it to length and drilled/tapped the end for a bolt.

PM him I'm sure he's got the measurements.

I've done some thing similar. I cut mine under the oil bag and added a longer piece and sleeved over the joint for strength.

I have plenty of room under the tank, no problem there.

I'll likely add an extension that brings the connect point about 1/2 way over a 3" belt; thread and tap the end for the Heim joint and call it done. That makes a straight shot to the pedal.

Edit:
Hah, pretty much like Kevin's piece.

We don't need pictures of my application. I know what I can do to fix it. My original post was about what other guys did to extend their clutch arms.

From scratch, modify orignal, etc...

the mouse trap arm wasnt long to line up the rod it was longer for better leverage/mechanical advantage. gotta be careful with extending stuff because you will increase your throw. IE youd have to push the pedal 2 times as far to get it to work the same.

Can't he just move his dog leash up a little higher on the other piece of the shifter shaft to compensate?

He could do that, I also don't want to be pulling the arm DOWN at the end ot the clutch throw.

The solution...the extension is welded on which makes the bolt redundant, but there it is.

Looks good! But I'd keep an eye on that for any sign that the chain might be biting it. It *looks* like you've got plenty of room, but on longer trips when the chain gets a little sloppy... :-)

Yep, I hear that. It's right over the schprocket so I should be OK.

I do have some room under the oil tank, I could do a little tweak upward if necessary.
