I just scored this BSA 500 from a guy I sold parts to a while back. It was on craigslist, but I worked out a trade for some Triumph unit parts. It's got a plunger frame and an alloy high compression motor. It ran a few weeks ago before the oil tank and primary cover were pulled and is mechanically sound, but the gas tank is obviously not stock. I know nothing about this bike, other than it's a "plunger competition" model. Anyone care to enlighten me on BSA competition bikes?

It's not worth a sour beer fart.
Send me your addy and I'll be on my way nonstop from Jax, Florida to keep you from having the shame of it sitting around while people point at it and laugh. Seriously? It's tremendously cool and I'm jealous as hell. It'd be outrageous as a mild cafe racer style bike. |

I may be going out on a limb here, but... all alloy motor... must be early Gold star. Worth a lot to the right person. Fuck ebay, why not check with BSA club for eg. ? It's worth money!

I think I've got one of those plunger rear-sections in the garage. Always wondered what year/bike it was from. Is it really skinny?

Any B34 is considered a GoldStar. It was a specific bird of the B34 that was teh creme de la creme. While the BB34 is hot comp model its not the ultimate GoldStar. But still a hell of a score. Especially with the plunger.

Please don't cut this up! Far too nice a bike and not very common, I think there is a picture of one in road race trim in Mick Walker's book Classic British Racing Motorcycles. Here's a link to a bit of a Goldie time line :

Are you kidding? Cut it up? I know people on this board are notorious for hacking /bodging good bikes, but this isn't your average CB750 (sorry jap guys) This thing is going to get used as is. No pretty bullshit other than getting rid of the Halloween paint scheme- maybe an alloy tank. Anyone have a solo seat like the one on the bike above? I need a manual too if anyone has any leads.

Yeah, a small alloy tank on there would go a long way. That thing is cool as hell though.

OK- I didn't plan on doing this, but I started taking measurements, and my Norton girder fit perfectly on the BSA frame. I've been trying to find the right bike for this front end and I think this is it. I know the front wheel is a bit too shiny, but it'll have to do for now. I threw and old Triumph 500 tank on there instead of that half-ass-Frisco-mounted peanut tank. Now I just need to hook up the oil and fuel lines and see what happens.

If that's all you do, you've got an outstanding looking bike. Anything more would look as contrived as Real World or NASCAR. Well, maybe not NASCAR.

Hey kylewormald, those 1940's BSA tanks aren't worth too much- they're kind of "a dime a dozen" if you know what I'm saying. But I have a nice set of Taiwanese Fat Bob tanks if you want to trade up. PM me.
