Default Build a 84" shovel.

I have a S&S 74" and want to get 84" so my understanding is get 4 5/8 flywheels and bore the jugs 0.60 over and run 80" pistons is this correct?

4 5/8'' arm is nice, but 4 3/4'' arm is even nicer.

Stay with a mild cam, and it will last close to stock, if you don't twist it past 6000 very often. I got to 70,000 with a 4 3/4'' by running a stock cam. Cam wouldn't let me rev over 5300, still would run off on the smaller twinkies.

I`m going thru the topend of a 74" shovel and was wondering whats the best cast pistons? the bottom end is good so i dont want to have to rebalance the flywheels. thanks craig

My old post follow up. I decided on a set of KB 9.5.1 80" for pistons but still waiting on a set of flywheels. I was hoping for a set of ultimas but cant get them so might go with S&S just alot of money.

Pistons for a stock 80 are not going to work with out modifications with 4 5/8'' stroke wheels. Or you keeping it 80''?

I thought that you could only go with 4.25" wheels without the taller jugs.?. I've been wrong before.

Nope. Stock bore S&S pistons run in stock cylinders @ 5.330''.

If you have a complete 74 inch the standard 80 inch pistons will work they are .060 o/s of a 74. That would be a real waste of stock 74 cylinders that may likely clean up at a smaller oversize. Back on 74 vs 80 you won't notice much difference between them even as you stroke them bigger with the same accompanying mods to both.
