Default Got me a new toy!

Just acquired this shovelhead from 504life. Runs, titled and all that good stuff.

We fussed around with it the other day. Changed the tank, bars and oil tank. Seems to be taking shape. I'm really diggin' the way it sits. Been looking at the bike for a few months prior. The whole time I'd thought I'd change this or change that. The motor runs, the wheels spin and the brake works. Probably (hopefully) keep any mods to a minimum for now. Finally have a ride that can sustain freeway speeds. More to come!

I like the way this is going. Do you carry this one also up the stairs into the house?

It's a 76' and luckily for my wife (my pushing bikes up the stairs assistant) it's not at my place as of yet.

Those Sportster fender struts and sportster fender look "bad ass" on that swing arm. It drops the fender at least an inch. Nice and skinny too. Ohhh FU*K the front brake. We build Choppers!!!

Nice looking bike. What kind of gas tank did you put on there. Looks like a banana Wassell.

I'll take me a stopper over a chopper any day of the week. I never once met somebody who got off a bike white as a sheet and said, "Fuck me, that bike has WAY too much braking power!"

Like my Pops told me when I was 10 years old. You ride with your brains not your brakes. Some play it safe, some don't, some ride choppers.....some don't.

YOUR DAD CHOPPED OFF HIS BRAKES AND STOPPED WITH HIS MIND? That's cray-cray.

EDIT: Oh wait, there's a brake on there. Your dad stopped like the rest of us. I bet he could have stopped faster with more brakes.

Well.....It's done. Here's some pics for ya".

New bungs. Don't mind the pinhole, fixed it. It took an HD pic for me to spot it.

Lower legs. We shaved them down at the shop. a buddy of mine is an aluminum/ SS steel sculpturerer that has a mega polisher gizmo

Switched out the wide glide for an 03 sporty front end....2 under. New 60 spoke 21" front rim w/speedmaster.....of course.

Just sitting on the bike my knee kept hitting the air cleaner.

After base coat and the first coat of clear (first time painter... go easy on me).

1.5 BDL and new clutch goodies. Moved the forward back to mids.

Seat pan.... 1/8" aluminum

This sit on the tube right above the oil tank

And the end result.

Oh yeah, 80 spoke 3X16 back with Avon MK2

There's a bunch of little nitty gritty stuff like the exhaust brackets, oil lines out of the tank, wiring and what not. This alone is enough typing to last me a few months.

Those vintage pics are great BP but you have to tell me how do you get away with running the fender so close to the tire? Extra strong springs or don't mind rubbing on the fender or the shocks were made rigid. I cannot wrap my mind around it but love the look.

My granddad's speech was " ride like you got no brakes , If you have to panic stop you actually screwed up about a hundred yards before that " !

Another gem was " They aint but two kinds of people out there driving cars , Them that caint see you 'cause they aint looking and them that see you and will try to kill you ! The way to tell the difference is if the bugger is looking right at you he is taking aim !! "

My favorite though was " Unlike a good woman , A motorcycle aint no fun at all if it ends up on top during the ride !"
