Default See you next tuesday build

just bought a 1973 Ironhead. fml

She needs a lot of work, at least the engine isn't seized. someone mickey moused the wiring and forward controls. need new grips and a really good once over. The thing has a massive battery.

My vision is some sort of lane splitter/bobber.

picking it up this weekend. Pictures will be coming later.
This will be my first bike build. For the most part I've only done general maintenance so I will be needing you fellas a lot. be patient with. But please be critical. I like a good challenge.
thanks for looking

No.that guy was a wicked dick though. Wouldn't answer any questions. Not even if it was numbers matching. This one is in Quincy. But hey if you wanna give a brother hand with this bitch when I pull the top end I wouldn't say no.

Go figure! In Lynn, with an HD...probably thought he was sitting on a gold mine. That thing was a mess.

Anyway, get a manual if you don't have one already & you'll find that motor comes apart easily. Take pics before, get lots of sandwich baggies & a Sharpie, and have at it.

yea I'm getting a manual with the bike. The bike is with a title thankfully.

I know from stupidity to label things while taking apart an engine. Took apart a gs 650 and screwed the pooch on that one.

The thing has a little bolt on. Not to found of it. A little cheap. Doesn't look very strong at least not to hold my fat ass.

To do List..Very open to change and things that pop up.

Tear her down to frame/motor
Gonna rewire it with the cloth stuff from lowbrow. Battery elim.
New Hardtail???
Tear down the top end.
Clean her up
Top end rebuild
Tranny rebuild..hopefully not but probably necessary
hopefully button her up

She needs a new tank. a new oil bag. new seat. tires are in great shape. Needs new foot controls. The cheap jpcycles forwards gotta go. They are just dangling there.

Obviously that's just what I can think of off the top of my head on 2 hrs of sleep so I'm sure I'm missing alot.

Don't be too rough on me and my purchase.

As you can see the cunt has been sitting outside for the past couple months. Guess they kicked him out of storage at his building.

Polish is still decent. Was trying to figure out what those bolts were for... I'm dumb. Front fender.

As you can see rust on the fins.
But they are all intact no damage to them and some of the haggard wiring

and the numbers. couldn't get a great shot.

Couple high notes. Braided lines for the front brake. Decent seat. and I got it for what I think was a decent price.

Gonna try to tear the bike down this weekend if I have the time and start working on the motor asap.

We shall see about the tank.. I need to find a cheap skinny peanut tank. But I need at least 2-3 gallons. So it won't be that skinny.

Well little delayed. Went up to Jay Peak this weekend. On the way home I was alseep in the back and...

Got a couple things done this morning before I had to go to work.
Tank off. Surpisingly no rust inside or none that I could see real quickly.

Seat off. Pain in the ass that was.

Here is just the clusterfuck of a mess of wiring. Toggle switches everywhere.

The Coil and I don't even know what the white thing is.

I don't even know what this is??

Found a toggle under the seat too.

Spent most of the time trying to melt the snow on it with a propane heater. Too cold for the most part.

Good news. I won't have to buy any switches beause I have like 5. No idea what they do.
Hopefully this thursday and friday I can take off the rest of the junk and starting pulling the jugs. I can't wait to see what I find

Anyone know of a good inexpensive place to get them honed and bored and cleaned up and all that jazz..Just don't want to overpay for it.

That white thingie looks like a turnsignal relay, and the other big one looks like a voltregulator/charging relay..

Cleaning up the mess of other people who have tried to play electrician can be a whole lotta work, keep at it!
