Default Tire sizes

How close do tire dimensions run from brand to brand if they are listed as the same size? I am going to attempt to fab a rear fender, but don't have the actual tire that I am going to run on the rim. Should I wait until I get the right tire, or will I be ok using what I have?

I think Avons might be a bit wider than Dunlops or vice versa.

The sizes listed are approx., not concrete specifications.
From one brand to the next, no way to predict.

Sizes are way different, even in the same brand. Dunlop 401, 402, and 404 are all different sized.

Its a crap shoot, even estimating tire width related to rim width.

If you want to run the fender tight get the tire first. And mount it on the rim you'll be using.
