Default The Unlucky Green Bike Thing

There was a thread quite some time back that I can't find now asking why green bikes are considered unlucky. Not sure if this answer was provided, but I found it in a book I just bought.

"Meanwhile the war had left its mark on motorcycling in strange ways, leading to the superstition that green Harleys were unlucky. Dispatch riders had been a target of enemy fire because they carried important documents."

Next time you see someone on a green bike, shoot them and steal their newspaper. Tell the police you did it because it's "old school."

yeah, in the post they talked about how green race cars were unlucky because 3 drivers died all driving green cars. And that somehow got transfered to bikes. This is like late 30's or early 40's. I don't remember the specifics.

But that sounds a little more believeable, cause most of the guys riding in the 50's were WWII vets.

I remember hearing about cars, never about bikes - then again, my dad's into cars not bikes so that might explain it. Even if it's just a myth about dispatch riders it's interesting.

Not so far off the mark. My first green bike, I crashed. My green shovel, I got hit broadside on last July. The other TABOO is not to by a bike that a Bro was killed on.

The theory I always heard was that early ambulances were green so nobody wanted to be carried around in something green.

My favortie explination is still the one I got from BigJim394 over on the HAMB.
"Green is the color of grass and that's not where you want your bike to end up."
Now, anyone know why its bad luck to light a cigarette of the same match as 2 guys before you?

The war is why green bikes are unlucky? Well no shit guys on "green bikes" were "unlucky" and got shot. They could have been pink, it wouldn't have mattered.

The 3 three cigs on a match will give night snippers enough time to aim and pop a cap in the last guys mug.
