Default I think I blew it up- again...

So I finally finished up my bike, and went for a nice ride yesterday. Had some charging/wiring issues and got her back to the garage. I fixed the problem last night and all was perfect. I did it! And she was done- finally.

I woke up early this morning and ate, drank some coffee, started her up and went to fuel up. I went for a nice little ride, the bike was running great. I got on it a little around the lakes out here in Santee, and she started bogging. I thouight I was having some fueling issues, but everything checked out fine. My bike was having a hard time, so I pushed her home (luckily I was fairly close) When I tried to start her back up, black smoke puked out of the exhaust. I ran a compression test and the front cylinder has nothing..... Rear cylinder 110.

Goddamnit! I just did the top end on this thing to the tune of $700. I think for some reason the front cylinder isnt oiling properly, but this is my first build, so I dont know. I adjusted the push rods per my manual, and the front exhaust was a bit tight, but nothing major. I just called my local, and he told me to call him in a week and he can get me in. I had the top end done last time and it was a month and a half till I got the parts back. Who knows when Ill be back on the road. Im pretty bummed. Anyone in San Diego know someone thats good and could use some work?

Here is a cell pic I took yesterday when I thought I was knees in the breeze. This green motorcycle superstition is starting to wear on me

Sorry for the bad news. Good looking scoot. I had my Ironhead Barrels done by this guy in Anaheim. I just shipped him my barrels and he took care of the rest. Had it back within 3 weeks. http://www.qande.com/ He did an excellent job and wasn't too expensive.

I need to have some things looked at and would really like to sit down and figure out this oiling situation or whatever the problem is with someone that knows.

Still don't buy the green thing though.

Black smoke is useually fuel. What do the plugs look like? Is that low cylinder showing any signs of oil on the plug? If so it may be rings. Put a little oil in there before testing the compression and see if that makes a differance in your reading.

The plugs are kinda dark, but not wet or fouled. They look pretty good. Im going to oil the cylinder and run another test.

I put a little oil in the cylinder and the reading is the same.

Since you're not getting compression I would pull the head and see if there is any damage to the valves or anything else. Unfortunately my only experience is with 1 rebuild (my ironhead) that I rebuilt this last year.

Does anyone know how to make sure oil is pumping correctly to the cylinder?

Hey if it comes down to it , take it to Stett at Stett's Iron Horse Ranch . He's a friend of mine and knows his shit .

It's right next to the clubhouse in Santee on El Cajon blvd , between the clubhouse & Dumonts .

If he isn't able to fix it it's not broken .

Yeah, I talked to Stett a while ago about hard tail questions. I'll call him up after I've narrowed it down, thanks Mike. I just want to ride this thing already.

I grew up in P.B. but moved out here about 4 years ago when we bought a house. The price was right and I got me a garage and yard for the pups.

It's funny because I never even came out this way growing up. It's a little hot in the summer, but thats what AC is for right? I live off Mast as well.

I'm pulling the head right now to see whats really going on. Thinking about it, I may have nailed it a little hard considering the fresh rebuild of the top end. Foolish.

To check the oiling issue's you can pull the line out of the head and see if oil is pushing up while someone else is kicking the bike with the plugs out. Low compression could also be from a valve that is stuck open. If you need a hand and don't want to pay the piper I can help. My wife bought me a 73' XLCH for my birthday last year. The poor thing had not seen the road since 1980. After an "E" and a realignment of the front cam with the others she breathed life. I road it for a few months then traded up for an 84' FXE basket that I hope to be riding next month.

Don't beat yourself up about it.

I had a fresh rebuilt motor in my VW bug back in the day, babied it all the time, then the car burned to the ground on the freeway one day. I never even got to enjoy the power. From then on I vowed to beat on things like no tomorrow. It fails or it doesn't.....
